Tony Duffy MSc (Sexuality), PG Cert Adult Education, Dip. Lifecoaching, Dip Sexuality, Dip Counselling, Registered Psychiatric Nurse RPN
I qualified as a Psychiatric nurse in Dublin in 1988 before moving to Cambridge UK to work with clients with serious mental health problems.
In December 1990, I took up my post as Medical Audit Officer at St Charles Hospital, London, one of the first appointments of its kind to implement the NHS Medical Audit program.
In 1994, I was appointed Clinical Audit Facilitator at St Mary’s NHS Trust, Paddington, London to facilitate the development of Clinical Audit in Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Accident & Emergency, Pathology, Radiology and Elderly Care.
I was appointed Clinical Governance Manager for Women and Children’s Services at St Mary’s NHS Trust in May 1999 to oversee the strategic development and implementation of the NHS Clinical Governance agenda.
On my return to Ireland in September 2001, I was appointed Director of the Irish Society for Quality & Safety in Healthcare – a national organisation delivering high-quality education, training and research in quality and safety improvement in healthcare throughout the Irish health service.
I left ISQSH in March 2003 to work as an independent Quality in Healthcare consultant. In May 2003, along with Majella Robinson I formed Clinical Quality Ireland to provide on-site training and consultancy in quality and safety in Irish healthcare.
I have special interest in Clinical Governance, Clinical Audit, Clinical Risk Management, strategic development and organisational culture.
I am an Associate Lecturer on the MSc in Quality in Healthcare Management in the International School of Healthcare Management at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and lectures in Ireland and overseas in Dubai and Bahrain.
